Manga, Game and Anime in Japan

Foreigners in Japan or who like Japanese stuffs e.g. Manga, Game and Anime

There must be foreign people who are interested in Japanese culture, history and Japanese food etc.
Foreign people living in Japan or people who are interested in Japan are likely into Games, Anime and Manga.

Manga

I like Manga to read.
My mom likes Manga as well. Basically she likes reading any books.

Many foreigners have asked me in Germany if I have read “ONE PIECE”, “NARUTO”.
Apparently they are popular all over the world but my answer is No.

My friend in Japan told me that “Kimetsu no Yaiba” is popular today.
“Kimetsu no Yaiba” is Manga, Anime and a movie. I just heard many kids and even adults like it.

Game

I don’t usually play games. That’s not my hobby.
When I was a kid, I played some games with super Nintendo.
I like “Mario Kart” and “Tetris”.

About 20 years past from that time,
I started playing game “Mario Kart” with Nintendo switch these days because my boyfriend bought Nintendo switch and I am into it again.

I am talking about “Mario Kart” with Nintendo switch more here.

Anime

Rice Cream Japanese culture

I don’t watch Anime in general.
But I like “Heidi a girl of alps” and movies from “studio Ghibli” since I was a kid.

Heidi is Japanese animation.
Original story is written by Johanna Louise Spyri.
Animation of Heidi a girl of alps is created by a director “Hayao Miyazaki” who is belong to studio Ghibli.

My recommendation of “studio Ghibli” are as below.

-My neighbour totoro
-Princess Mononoke
-Naushika

When I was a kid, I was watching a lot of “studio Ghibli” movies.
I’m open to watch Anime if my friend recommends something nice and fun.

Mascots

There are a crazy amount of mascots in Japan!
You can see mascots everywhere e.g. City or town’s mascot, company mascot and mascot for goods or from Anime.

When I think about mascots of German, Haribo bear comes up first.
I like Haribo and the mascot of Haribo bear.
I feel that is one of typical Europian mascot but the expression of German mascot is not like Japanese ones.
Japanese mascots are more adorable compared to German ones.

In Japan, unique, humor and adorable mascots are popular.
Here is one of unique and cute mascot paaaaan.

Rice Cream bread paaaaan

Otaku (geek, nerd)
You can call people who are into Games, Anime or Manga “Otaku” in Japan.

There are many kind of Otaku but it is not easy for some people to understand
why Otaku collects girl’s dolls or read Manga which is girl’s porno implied.

It’s free to enjoy Hobby and disposition.
But many women might feel a bit uncomfortable with men who see young girls like children
as a sexual way like pedophiles.

Manga and Anime in Europe

European think that to read Manga and watch Anime is for children.

In my opinion, some Manga and Anime are composed of remarkable stories.
They are recommended even for grown people.
You could be able to learn or be moved from them.

My recommendations of Manga

Slam dunk *from 1990 to 1996
-It is about basketball club at high school.
-There are many Interesting characters.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure *from 1987 to 2005
-It is about fight and fantasy
-There is a lot of series

I didn’t like the drawing when I was a kid but read almost all when I was 25.

Crayon Shin-chan *from 1990 to 2009
-It is about daily story about Japanese 5 years old boy with a lot of humor.
-This is actually created for grown people.

I have been loving it since I was a kid.
I remember that I was often reading it at the dentist in Japan.

Chibi-Maruko-chan *from 1990 to 1992
-It is about daily story about Japanese elementary school student girl including real stories
-There is a lot of humor and empathy things

I borrowed from my friend and read all when I was 16.

There must be some Manga contents on digital application.
I would like to read them again someday.
All four Manga I recommended as above have Anime version as well.

Total
-Japan is mascot culture!
-Japan is a big market for Manga.
-Manga and Anime are for adult people as well as kids.
