1.Tofu
I feel that a lot of people are vegetarian or vegan in Berlin, Germany.
That’s one of the reason that Japanese food is pretty popular for vegetarian or vegan people.
Fish, Tofu, Rice are typical Japanese food.
So I guess it is also nice for vegetarian.
Especially Tofu is healthy.
It contains a lot of protein and it is low calorie.
There are some kind of processed Tofu with taste at supermarket.
I didn’t recognize it Tofu for the first time that they are Tofu actually.
Kinu Tofu(soft) or Momen Tofu(a bit hard) costs around 1.5 euro for 200g at Asian supermarket.
Chinese language is written on the package so I guess the one I bought was from China.
It costs around 50 cents for 200g and you can find many kind of Tofu in Japan.
2.Rice
“MilchReis” is similar texture to Japanese rice.
I am happy that I can buy similar rice to Japanese rice at supermarket in Germany.
It costs about 1 euro for 500g.
Sweet Rice desert which has milk and some fruits is apparently normal in Thai and Europe as I know.
I know Mochi and Dango which is sweet made of rice.
But milk rice is not familiar with me as Japanese.
I have eaten milk rice in Germany for my first time.
You can buy Japanese rice at Asian supermarket.
In Japan, to buy 2kg-10kg package of Japanese rice is normal.
I remember that I was buying rice around 25 euro for 5kg.
Japanese people wash rice with tap water before you place it in rice cooker by the way.
3.Ramen
There are a lot of Ramen restaurant in Berlin, Germany.
One Ramen restaurant I went was not good.
The Ramen had almost no taste and I felt it is too much water.
It was disappointing.
Ramen costs around 10 euro at Ramen restaurant in Berlin, Germany.
After that, I am scared to go to Ramen restaurant.
I prefer instant Ramen than restaurant.
You can buy Japanese Ramen at Asian market but there are not so many kinds.
It costs around 1 euro for one portion.
In Japan, you can eat Japanese Ramen with good taste for around 5 euros at Ramen restaurant.
To eat Ramen in Japan is the best!
Soy base, poak base, Miso base and salt base are basic soup.
Japanese food = Asian food ?
Of course, Japanese food is one of Asian food and rice is staple food in most Asian countries.
But there are many countries and taste are different.
And there are a lot of kind of rice.
Do I feel differences of taste because I am Japanese?
In fact, there are many people in Germany
thinking Japanese, Chinese or Thai food as “Asian taste”.
My boyfriend agreed that thinking.
For some reasons, there are many Vietnamese people and Vietnamese restaurant in Berlin, Germany.
Those restaurant offer Japanese meal like Sushi, Teriyaki taste.
That’s why people in Berlin, Germany are not sure about taste boarder of countries, I guess.
There is possibility that people in Germany think Vietnamese restaurant = Asian taste.
I think people who have been to Japan or some countries in Asia might be able to see the difference of taste.
Overall summary
-Possible to cook tasty Japanese food in Germany.
-Around twice or three times expensive but possible to buy Japanese food or seasoning In Asian supermarket.
-Not tasty Japanese food exist at restaurant in Germany.
-Good quality of Japanese restaurant is likely pricy.
