Japanese food Curry rice Recipe

Curry rice is one of popular Japanese food especially for kids in Japan.

Japanese curry is different that Thai green curry and Indian curry.

Japanese curry sauce mix is the point of the taste.
The curry sauce is made of curry powder, flour, oil, meat taste and a lot of vegetables.

There was curry rice on the menu at school lunch “Kyushoku” in Japan.
Many students including me really love Japanese curry rice at school lunch.

There are three kinds of spicy level.
“Kara-kuchi” is spicy.
“Chu-kara” is little spicy.
“Ama-kuchi” is sweet.

I like “Chu-kara” which is a little spicy.
My mother likes not so spicy curry so she prefer sweet curry “Ama-kuchi”.
But she usually prepared Japanese curry “Chu-kara” for me and my siblings when I was a child.

Here is the recipe how to cook Curry rice.

For 4 portions

Ingredients

a.Curry sauce mix (Asian supermarket) 115g

b.Potato 5
c.Carrot 2
d.Onion 2

e.Chicken 200g
f.Water 700ml
g.Salt and pepper little

How to cook Nikujaga

1.Cut the vegetables
2.Fry the meat a bit with a little oil in pot or pan.
3.Add the vegetables and fry a bit
4.Put water and a lid and make them cooked for 10 mins
5.Skim form from pot sometimes
6.Put Curry sauce mix and make them melt little by little with low heat
7.Add salt, pepper, curry powder, honey if you want
8.Cook for 10 mins with low heat and mix sometimes

Curry sauce mix at Asian supermarket costs about 5 euro for 1 box 230g.
In Japan, it costs 1 to 2 euro.

To put cheese or schnizel as topping is also tasty.
You can add any vegetables you like in curry rice.

Curry rice at the second day is tastier I think.
Because the taste soaks into ingredients more.

When I was a child, I did not know that there is not Japanese curry like Thai curry or Indian curry.
If you say curry in Japan, people normally imagine Japanese curry.

As camping meal, Japanese curry is common to cook.
I have experienced to cook Japanese curry when I was on school camping trip.

If you use Japanese curry sauce mix, you barely fail to make tasty curry.
I guess it is also possible to make spices of Japanese curry with herbs
but many people in Japan just use already prepared Japanese curry sauce mix to make Japanese curry.
There are tons of kinds of Japanese curry sauce mix at supermarket in Japan.
