In Japan, there are a lot of Kissaten which means cafe or coffee shop in Japanese.
Since I was a child, I have been visiting cafes often because my parents and grandparents like visiting cafes on Saturdays or Sundays in Japan.
Drinking coffee and reading newspapers at cafes is one of their routines for them.
My hometown is kind of countryside but there are some cafes.
Some old cafe shops in my hometown are closed.
I heard that they couldn’t find someone who can work at the cafe or the owner got old.
That’s why they couldn’t keep open the cafe sadly.
It’s an aging society, especially in the countryside in Japan.
In my opinion, cafes and Kissaten have a different atmosphere.
Cafe is more modern and fashionable.
Kissaten is like a more retro traditional Japanese style of cafe.
Many Kissaten have breakfast special service which is called “morning service”.
The service time is depending on the cafe but normally from around 9 to 11 am.
Breakfast morning service menu is surprisingly FREE!
If you order one drink during breakfast service time, you will get extra food as breakfast for free.
Normal free breakfast service menu I know is as below for me.
1.boiled egg
2.thick a half bread with jam or margarine
3.Yakult(healthy small sweet beverage which is well known in Japan)
Kissaten Cafe called Liver, Marmapapa, Serina I liked were all closed long time ago.
I guess that some chain cafes like Komeda coffee shops are stable even in countryside.
Here is Japanese morning breakfast service system at a cafe.
You pay only for a drink and you can get some food as breakfast.
That’s it.
Morning breakfast service in Japan is just amazing.
The reason My mother and I like Kissaten is because they offer great morning breakfast service and a lot of comics there.
Actually, we especially like a specific cafe.
The cafe shop’s name is “Kukuru”.
Information of Kukuru Toba shop (there is also Kukuru at Nishio)
Kukuru
Open time 7:00-18:00
Close Wednesday and the third Tuesday
Morning breakfast service time 7:00-14:00
Lunchtime 11:30-14:00
My mother and I used to go to Kukuru around 14:00 after we had lunch at home.
Kukuru’s morning breakfast service finishes at 14:00.
Lunchtime and Morning breakfast service happen at the same time somehow.
I often went to Kukuru with my mother on Sundays.
My mother used to go there 2 or 3 times a week.
She even buys 10 or 20 coffee tickets every year.
After 14:00, there are not so many customers at cafe Kukuru.
We can relax without the pressure of customers waiting or a busy atmosphere.
When we stay there for a long time to read Manga, we sometimes order tasty cakes.
We normally stay in Kukuru for 3 to 4 hours.
Kukuru’s free breakfast service menu is as below.
1.boiled egg or scramble egg
2.thick a half bread with jam or margarine or Ogura (sweet red beans)
3.Rice ball
4.Salad
I usually order English tea with milk.
English tea is also tasty at Kukuru.
If you just want to read many comics, there are a lot of Manga Kissa, which are comic cafe shops in Japan.
It’s also nice but you can enjoy great morning breakfast service, nostalgic retro atmosphere and comics at cafe “Kissaten” not at Manga Kissa.
Aichi prefecture in Japan is popular for breakfast special morning service compared to other states in Japan
because breakfast service at cafes in Aichi prefecture has a lot and they serve huge breakfast service.
I think it’s gorgeous.
When I visit Japan, I sometimes meet my friends at a cafe to eat morning breakfast service together.
I’m looking forward to having morning breakfast service in Japan soon.
