7 Japanese souvenir recommendation in Japan

I would like to buy a lot of Japanese souvenirs when I visit Japan next time.
There are a lot of tasty, cute, useful or funny products in Japan.
Every time I go to Japan, I often buy those 7 items I am going to recommend.

1.Umeshu (plum liquor)
Umeshu is a liqueur made of steeping ume plums and sugar.
Umeshu is around 14 percent alcohol. Umeshu is sweet and a little bit sour.
To drink Umeshu with ice, water or sparkling water would be great.
You can enjoy some ways to drink Umeshu.
You can buy Umeshu at supermarkets and convenience shops in Japan.
One bottle of Umeshu which is 750ml costs around 1000 yen.
I would like to buy Umeshu as Japanese souvenir next time.
I can also recommend Sake as Japanese souvenir.

Sake “Shou-chiku-bai”
It’s orthodox Japanese Sake.
It’s reasonable and tasty.
You can find “Shou-chiku-bai” at supermarkets and convenience shops in Japan.
It depends on which brand you buy but you can buy it for around 1000 yen.

I wanted to recommend buying Japanese whiskey “Hibiki”.
But It’s hard to get it.
Since 2018, the maker has stopped producing whisky “Hibiki” 17 years old.
I forgot how old it was but I know the product “Hibiki“ which costs around 5000 yen at duty shops in the Japanese airport.
I have bought Hibiki a few times for my father ‘s request.
Whiskey Hibiki 30 years old was expensive. It was around 125000 yen as far as I know.
There are some kinds of whiskey Hibiki but it is popular and since it is known by foreign countries, it is difficult to get it.
My father said that it’s sad it is not possible to buy it easily anymore.

2.Dashi

Dashi is the basic taste of Japanese meal made of fish.
You can buy Dashi at any supermarket in Japan.
Dashi is important when you cook Japanese food such as Okonomiyaki, Nikujaga, Miso soup etc.
People who have Dashi can enjoy cooking Japanese meals.

3.Galbo

Galbo is Japanese chocolate snack.
I like Galbo with strawberry taste.Galbo is not too sweet.
It’s the perfect level of sweet in my opinion. You can buy Galbo at supermarkets and convenience shops in Japan.
A small Japanese souvenir for friends could be Galbo.Galbo costs around 150 yen.

4.Face sheet mask

Japanese face sheet masks are the best souvenir for women.
I bought around 5 kinds of Japanese face sheet masks in Japan last time.
All of them made my face moisturized. I have tried German face sheet mask, French face sheet masks but I prefer Japanese face sheet masks.
I’m not sure if that’s because I have Japanese skin but the moisture level of Japanese sheet masks is different from European one.
You can buy Japanese face sheet masks at drugstores and convenience stores.
One Japanese face sheet mask costs 100 yen to 1000 yen.100 yen one is usually  nice as well.
My favorite Japanese face sheet is as below.

It’s 5 masks in a box and it’s around 600 yen.
Korean face sheets are also nice and you can buy some kinds of Korean face sheet masks at drugstores in Japan.

5.Bento box (lunch box)

I have never seen Japanese lunch bento box in Germany so far.
Japanese common lunch bento box menu is rice and some kind of Okazu which is like Karaage, fried Japanese egg roll, asparagus bacon, Edamame, salad etc.
A lot of petite kinds and rice should be separated.
That’s why many Japanese lunch bento boxes have two or three floors.
There are tons of different kinds of Japanese lunch bento boxes like cute design, useful design or high function etc. in Japan.
I had around 5 Japanese lunch bento boxes in my life.
One of my favorite lunch bento box is Hello kitty bento box.

I have been using it since I was a child.

You can buy a Japanese lunch bento box at variety goods shops,100 yen shops and 300 yen shop 3coins or kitchen goods shops.
It costs around 100 yen to 3000 yen usually.

6.Socks with Japanese pattern
I have bought socks with Japanese pattern at Don Quijote (ドン・キホーテ) which is dealing with a lot of products discounted store.
The socks have bonsai and sakura drawings.
It was a Japanese souvenir for my friend and he was happy because you can get this kind of Japanese design only in Japan.
It costs around 500 yen and there are at variety goods shops as well.

7.Chopsticks
You can buy chopsticks of various patterns in Japan.
I strongly recommend buying chopsticks at a 100 yen shop.
The quality of 100 yen shops in Japan is pretty good.
There are many Japanese kitchen goods at 100 yen shops like Owan which is for soups, Chawan which is for rice, Kobachi which is for small side dishes.
There are a lot of 100 yen shops in Japan.I like 100 yen shops Seria.
The 100 yen shop Daiso is also popular. You can buy a lot of different kinds of products at 100 yen shops.
Shop 3coins is also popular in Japan.
It’s 300yen shop. There are many cute and useful products at the 300 yen shop.

  1. I always buy umeshu for my family whenever I go back to the UK, and they absolutely LOVE it. What about Japanese tea??

    1. Hi, Thank you for reading my blog and writing your comment.
      Yes, Umeshu is tasty!
I like Japanese tea but some people who are not used to drink it might feel weird.
If your family know what kind of taste Japanese tea is, then it would be a nice souvenir as well 😉
